Full Description

NMRS Report: (08/10/2004)
ND16SW 67 centred 13689 60040

A small military camp has been identified from RAF vertical air photographs (106G/Scot/UK73, 4042-4043, flown 9 May 1946), immediately to the W of Braal Castle (ND16SW 5). The camp was built around the eastern edge of a field and consisted of about 40 huts of varying types. The air photographs show that many had already been removed by May 1946. It is not known for what purpose the camp was built, it may possibly be linked to the oil tanks at Hoy Station (ND16SW 53).
There will be few surviving remains of the camp as several postwar houses have been constructed on the site.
