Full Description

NMRS Report: (17/11/2004)
ND35SE 103.20 c.3661 5142

A small square pillbox has been identified from WW II RAF vertical air photographs (NLA 57, 5075-5076, flown 21 February 1943), which shows the structure lying immediately to the E of a track that now forms Girnigoe Street.
The pillbox is visible within a circular barbed-wire enclosure, which itself is set within the outer perimeter fence of the airfield. Also noted from the photographs are two lines of zig-zag trenches radiating from the pillbox . (Information from Defence of Britain Project form, Mr A Gutteridge).
The pillbox was demolished when Girnigoe Street was constructed in the postwar period.
Information from RCAHMS (DE), Noveember 2004
