Centred 259 472.

An axe of fine crystalline rock, black with white, surface mostly pecked but edge polished, which was found near the schoolhouse, Dunvegan, is in the NMAS, on loan from Dame Flora MacLeod of MacLeod. (Acc No: L.1955.74).

According to Dame Flora (Dame Flora Macleod, Dunvegan Castle), this is one of two similar axes which were found at the same time by a Mr John MacLennan, now deceased, in the vicinity of the school (NG 259 472), at about the time it was being built - 1937. Both axes were sent to the NMAS which retained one and returned the other to Dunvegan Castle where it is still preserved. No information could be gained regarding the present find spot.
