Full Description

NMRS Report: (24/04/2006)
ND34SW 320 34596 43086

This building, which is situated in the corner of a field of pasture immediately E of the N end of Loch Sarclet, has been reduced to little more than a rectangular grass-grown mound of stones measuring about 9m from NE to SW by 5m transversely overall. Where best preserved, on the NW side and at the SW end, the wall measures 0.6m in thickness and survives to a height of 0.3m.
The building is depicted roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix), but it was omitted from the 2nd edition of the map (1907, sheet xxix). Lochside is described in the Ordnance Survey Name Book (Caithness No. 13, p. 307) as `a small district comprising a number of small farms and crofter's dwellings, the property of FS Bently Innes Esq'.
