Full Description

NMRS Report: (20/07/2005)
ND34SW 184 32743 44178

The remains of this farmstead are situated in an area of rough pasture about 235m NNE of the abandoned steading at Melbourne Cottage (ND34SW 183). The farmstead comprises a range containing two compartments; its walls measure 0.6m in thickness and up to 1.6m in height on the SE side and the SW gable, but elsewhere they have been reduced to heaps of rubble. The SW compartment has a central entrance in its SE side and there is a small blocked window in the centre of the SW gable.
The range is depicted roofed on the both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix). Nothing is now visible of the small roofed structure shown immediately to the SE of the range on the earlier map.
