Full Description

NMRS Report: (09/11/2005)
ND34SW 237 32108 43046

This disused sandstone quarry is situated in rough pasture about 90m NW of Whiteleen farmsteading (ND34SW 126). Irregular on plan, it measures about 16m from N to S by up to 4.5m transversely; the quarries appear to have cut back a natural E-facing outcrop, leaving a ragged rock-face 2m high on the W and a low spoil-tip on the E. The quarry is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
