Full Description

NMRS Report: (18/05/2006)
ND34SW 333 ND 34262 44359

This disused quarry is situated within a triangular post-and-wire enclosure in the improved ground about 325m SSE of Thrumster School. Irregular on plan, the quarry measures 19m from NNW to SSE by 16m transversely and up to 0.6m in depth; the interior is overgrown with grass, bracken and rushes, and is partly filled at its SE end with field-cleared stones and boulders. The quarry is depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix); on the earlier map it is shown containing water, indicating that it had already gone out of use.
