This disused quarry is situated on the N bank of the Burn of Swartigill 830m WSW of where the burn is crossed by the minor public road that runs from Thrumster to Tannach. The quarry comprises a number of heather-grown pits and spoil-tips covering an area measuring about 45m from E to W by 30m transversely. The quarry is first depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix) and is annotated `Old Quarry' on the 2nd edition of the map (1907, sheet xxix).
