This disused quarry is situated close to the edge of a field of rough pasture about 140m E of Thrumster Mains farmsteading (ND 3296 4509). Irregular on plan, it measures about 26m from N to S by 14m transversely and has been dug into the W-facing flank of a low rise to a depth of about 1m. The quarry is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix), but it is not shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1907, sheet xxix).
