Full Description
NMRS Report: (20/05/2005)
NC14SW 8004 unlocated

Source: The Marine List, LL, No. 6684, London, Tuesday October 25 1831.
NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 6804).
(No classification specified: cargo cited as hemp and tallow, and date of loss as 10 October 1831). Unknown: this vessel foundered off Loch Badwik, 40 miles North of Ullapool. (Loch Badcall?).
(Location of loss cited as N58 20.0 W5 10.0).
I G Whittaker 1998.
The map sheet assigned to this record is arbitrary, being derived from the location cited by Whittaker. Loch Badwik is possbly to be equated with Loch Badcall; this loch is not noted on the 1997 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but Badcall Bay is centred around NC 160 411. The citation of the loss as 'about 40 miles North of' Ullapool suggests a location near Loch Inchard [name centred NC 2355].
It is unclear whether the use of the word 'ship' in the original account of the loss is general or specific; the former (implying a full-rigged vessel) is preferred.
