Wick, 22nd Oct. `The OSCAR, McLeod, of Stornaway (laden with herrings) was stranded in Sinclair's Bay this morning; she has seven feet water in her hold; part of the cargo has been landed, and it is expected the whole will be saved.'

Registration: Stornoway. Built 1822. 93 tons burthern. Length: 18m. Beam: 5m.

The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Keiss Sands are not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the name probably applies to the extensive sandy area of Keiss Links, which extend along the western side of Sinclair's Bay between about ND 342 602 and ND 338 580.
The classification and cargo cited by Whittaker remain unverified.
