Wick, 10th Sept. `The REGATTA, Martin, from St. Petersburg to Belfast, came ashore on Kirss [Keiss] Sands this morning; she has unshipped her rudder, has 8 feet water in her hold, and is expected to receive further damage, as the wind is strong from SSE.¿

NMRS, MS/829/71 (no. 7794).
The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Kirss or Keiss Sands are not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map, but the name probably applies to the extensive sandy area of Keiss Links, which extend along the western side of Sinclair's Bay between about ND 342 602 and ND 338 580.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably suggesting her successful recovery.
