Full Description

NG32NE 6 397 275

(NG 396 276) A group of about 15 ruined shielings is situated at NG 398 275 on the banks of the Allt nam Fitheach at a height of about 450' OD.
They are mainly single-cell types in poor condition showing merely as small turf mounds, but two larger mounds contain double-cell types with some of the walling visible. Some 300 m to the WNW of the main group, at NG 394 275, at the junction of a small stream and the Allt nam Fitheach, are about 6 more shielings within a Forestry Commission plantation with single- and double-cell types represented. (Visible on RAF air photographs CPE/Scot/UK/274: 3170-1)
Visited by OS (C F W) 3 June 1961

One unroofed shieling-hut is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire, Isle of Skye 1881, sheet xxxviii), but it is not shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1968).
