NMRS Report: (04/11/2005)
NG53NE 142 5545 3515
The upstanding remains of a house were recorded here during a field survey of the Suisnish area of Raasay by ACFA, who have conducted surveys on the island every year since 1995. The rectangular structure measures 11m x 3.7m internally and has walls 0.75m thick. The walls were built in drystone and are double skinned with a rubble core. They stand to a maximum height of 2m and there may have been an internal division, which is now a pile of rubble. There are two entrances, the NE one of which has been filled in. There appears to be two phases of construction, with larger stones used in the lower layers and smaller material used higher up. The structure could have been a 19th century shepherd's cottage, when Suisnish was part of a large sheep farm.
