Full Description
At NG 142478, on a shelf at the foot of the Waterstein escarpment, by the side of the Allt nan Uamha at about 320ft OD, there is an enclosure. It is near-rectangular on plan measuring about 50m N-S by 40m transversely with walling 1.0m wide and 0.2m high, the E side being formed by natural slopes. Within the enclosure are three mounds measuring 5.0m in diameter and 0.2m in height, each surrounded by a faint ditch. In the SW corner there is a fourth mound 3.0m in diameter and 0.2m in height with a slight hollow in the centre. In the SE. corner, and without the W side are two small ruined buildings, oblong on plan with rounded corners, measuring 5.0m by 2.5m and 8.0m by 2.5m respectively. The larger of the two seems to be divided into two compartments.
The precise nature of this site is uncertain. It may possibly be an enclosed hut group with three 'ring-ditch' houses, or, a much later settlement of two houses with a stackyard, the circular mounds being bases for stacks, a common feature in Skye.
Surveyed at 1/10,000.
Visited by OS (A C) 17 May 1961; Visible on RAF air photographs CPE/Scot/UK/175: 1298-9.
