Full Description

NMRS Report: (21/02/2007 10:40:43)
NJ02NE 60 NJ 0734 2760

Nothing is now visible of these cottages and their site is occupied by a large spread of stones cleared from the adjacent cultivated ground. As depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Elginshire 1874, sheet XXXIII), the cottages were contained within a long range, orientated NNE and SSW, with a garden immediately W of its S end. Bruntland is recorded in the Ordnance Survey Name Book (Elginshire No. 5, p.196) as 'two cottages under one roof, one storey high, thatched and in bad condition. Property of the Earl of Seafield'. Only the S half of the range is shown roofed on the 2nd edition of the map (1905, sheet XXXIII.NW).
Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 28 September 2006.
