This farmstead is situated on the leading edge of an old river terrace about 180m SE of Croftmaquien farmsteading (NJ02SW 69). It comprises five building disposed around three sides of a yard that is open to the SE. All of the buildings have been reduced to low, grass-grown footings. Four of the buildings are depicted roofed on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet XLVIA); no part of the steading is shown on the 2nd edition of the map (1902, sheet XLVIA).
Millcroft is recorded in the Ordnance Survey Name Book (Inverness-shire No. 1, p.50) as `a small farmsteading, houses one storey partly built of sods, badly thatched and in bad repair. Occupied by Miss McGillivry. The property of the Earl of Seafield, Castle Grant'.
