Full Description
NMRS Report: (17/04/2007 08:27:02)
NJ01NE 61 06026 17894
This converted farmsteading is still occupied, but not all of the buildings could be recorded on the date of visit. As depicted on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet lx; 1902, sheet lx), the farmsteading comprised a farmhouse, standing on the S side of three other buildings. All these structures still survive, though one is now used as a laundry, its modern sheet-metal roof supported by three wooden crucks, and another, on the NE side of the steading, has been reduced to footings, its SE end removed to make way for a parking area.
In recent times a modern house has been constructed in the angle between the SW end of the original farmhouse and the SE end of one of the ancillary buildings. Built in the style of a Scottish 'tower-house' and rendered with pink harling, it is linked to the former farmhouse by a doorway that has been cut through the gable of the latter. Nothing is now visible of the limekiln that formerly stood 30m WNW of the buildings and is also depicted on the 1st edition of the OS map.
Visited by RCAHMS (PMcK, AGCH) 22 August 2006.
