Full Description

NMRS Report: (29/01/2007 11:26:20)
NJ02SE 43 NJ 06046 22982

This building is situated end-on into a steep SE-facing slope in woodland 360m SE of Connage farmsteading (NJ02SE 32). Rectangular on plan, it measures 17.1m from NW to SE by 4.4m transversely over walls up to 0.5m in height. The interior contains three compartments set into the slope on different levels. The upper, NW compartment, is largely obscured by rubble, but the central compartment has an entrance in its SW side and what appears to be a bed-nook on the NE. The lowermost compartment, at the SE end, may simply be an outshot. Immediately NW of the building is a U-shaped scoop measuring about 4m across and cut into the slope to a depth of 1m. It is revetted on its uphill side with a low drystone wall.
Visited by RCAHMS (TIP, IP) 8 September 2006.
