Full Description

NMRS Report: (12/06/2007 13:03:13)
NG51NW 71 5195 1803

NG 5195 1803 A dispersed linear group of stone built cells lying on a north-east to south-west alignment. The group consists of one twin called figure of eight shieling, one 4.00m diameter cell and three 2.00m diameter cells. At the lower south-west end of the group is a later sub-rectangular cell which measures 4.50m by 3.60m over walls 0.60m thick. A narrow entrance is visible in the south corner of the structure.
At the north-east end of the group, on a natural platform which lies at the foot of a rocky outcrop, is a substantial pile of rubble. The remains of a number of small cells can be seen amongst this rubble. These cells appear to overlie the remains of a 9.00m diameter hut circle.
NG 5188 1816 A twin-celled figure of eight shieling consisting of two identical 2.00m diameter cells connected by a low creep which still retains it's lintels. The interiors of the cells, which measure only 1.00m in diameter, are filled with rubble stone.
Martin Wildgoose, George Kozikowski and Steven Birch, 1997.
