Sound of Sleat [name centred NG 72 09]
Skye [name centred NG 45 35].
(Classified as wooden motor fishing [vessel]: date of loss cited as 24 September 1912). Isa Farquhar: this vessel exploded and caught fire 2 miles North of Sleat Point [Point of Sleat], Skye.
Registration: Inverness. Built 1901. 41 tons [unspecified].
(Location of loss cited as N57 3.0 W6 4.0).
I G Whittaker 1998.
The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially tentative, being derived from the unverified location of loss that is cited by Whittaker. This suggests that the loss occurred to the W of the Sleat peninsula (within Cuillin Sound) rather than to the E (in the Sound of Sleat).
The Cuillin Sound is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS map, but the term is applied to the waters between Rum (to the SW) and the SE part of Skye (to the NE).
