Full Description

Photographs of the steading building were submitted to the HER as a requirement of planning consent to demolish and replace with a new house. <1>

There is a sketch plan of the farm at Tomnagaun in the National Archives of Scotland dating from May 1767. <2>

A visitor to the HER website reported that his ancestors James McDonald and his wife Catherine (nee Robertson) lived at Tomnagaun between at least 1868 and 1881. James was recorded as a farmer of 35 acres, 70 arable, in both the 1871 and 1881 census returns. Mr McDonald's great grandfather, William McDonald, was born at Tomnagaun in 1871. <3>
