Full Description
One of a network of crofthouses and byres located in and around Upper Lybster. Both buildings on the croft are depicted as roofed on the 1st edition 6" OS map <1> and continue to be so up until the 1:10560 OS mapping from 1977 <2>. It is unclear as to why the building is known as the Old Millhouse as nothing on the historic mapping suggests this use. Planning consent was granted in 2006 to renovate the buildings into a modern dwelling house. At this time both buildings were ruinous although the east-west aligned building still retained much of its thatched roof. Unfortunately the photographic record attached to planning consent was not received so only a skeletal photographic record (taken by the local Planning Office <3>) is held <4>.
