Full Description
Structures and walling over an area c 70 m N/S x 30 m.
a) Oval ?structure, measuring 4.2 m NE/SW x 3.6 m externally. Defined by ring of stones, somewhat intermittent, c .65 m wide and forming clear wall with 2 skins visible in S arc Stones flush with or just protruding above turf. Possible entrance on SE. Burrowing against NW arc and in dune immediately to W.
b) From N end of (a), possible wall meanders NNE for c 80 m. Whole terrace is littered with angular and subangular blocks of basal quartzite, 0.10 - 0.6 m across, so it is difficult to make out features, but wall seems composed of longer stones generally set end to end.
c) At N end of (b) (although defining this as its end is very dubious), better defined length of wall runs ESE/WSW down slope to E for c 20 m. Formed of large subangular boulders but little clear facing. May form side of enclosure with (b) forming W side.
On level terrace, below high, craggy ridge to E and lower one to W, under thin turf and sand with patches of marram on low dunes scattered along terrace.
Possible shieling and enclosure(s), built out of the glacial debris that litters the area.
Recommendations: Monitor in case more is exposed in future. Control rabbits. <1><2>
