Full Description

NG71SW 8023 unlocated
NLO: Ornsay [name centred NG 710 127]
Sound of Sleat [name centred NG 72 09]
Skye [name centred NG 45 35].
Not to be confused with NG80NW 8002.
Kyleakin, Skye, 8th May. The AGNES (smack), of Arbroath, drove from her anchors in Ornsay Isle roads and came ashore at Ellen beach, but was got off on the 4th May, with loss of an anchor and chain.
Source: LL, No. 16,872, London, Tuesday, May 12 1868.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11441).
The map sheet assigned to this record is essentially arbitrary. The locations of Ornsay Isle roads and Ellen beach cannot be established from the available map evidence. Ornsay [name centred NG 710 127] lies immediately SE of the Isle of Skye, at the S end of the Sound of Sleat [name centred NG 72 09].
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably on account of her successful recovery.
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 4 March 2009. <1>
