NLO: Cromarty [name: NH 786 677]
Cromarty Firth [name centred NH 69 67].
Cromarty, 7th Dec. The LAURA (schr.) Brannen, of and for Sunderland, from Portsoy, in ballast, lost anchors in the roads here in a gale on the 3rd Dec., struck the ground, and took the assistance of men to get off, but remains, much strained: she is expected off to-morrow should the weather moderate.
Source: LL, No. 16,439, London, Wednesday, December 19 1866.
NMRS, MS/829/72 (no. 11146).
The location assigned to this record is essentially tentative. Cromarty Roads cannot be identified from the available map evidence but the name presumably applies to an area in front of (to the NW of) Cromarty Harbour.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998), presumably accepting her successful recovery.
