Full Description

NM 48397 91204
On a flat terrace ridged with old storm beaches above the high water mark at Talm, on the N coast of Eigg, there are the remains of a building, an enclosure, a pen, a possible boat naust and an area of rig and furrow, all enclosed within a stone dyke. A second dyke, running S from this enclosure for about 450m, is noted under NM49SE 8. The building measures 7m in length by 2.8m in breadth internally; the walls have been extensively robbed but the SE wall survives to a height of 0.3m. About 15m to the SW of the building there is a sub rectangular enclosure; it measures 12.5m in length by 5.5m in breadth and it has been dug into beach deposits to a depth of about 1m. A possible boat naust is situated 20m to the NW of the enclosure, immediately above the present beach. It measures 14m in length by 4m in breadth and is enclosed by low banks 1.3m in thickness and 0.3m in height. To the NE of these structures, at the foot of a low cliff, there is a rubble built pen, measuring 6.5m in length by 1.5m in breadth. The wall stands to a height of 0.8m and is 0.5m thick. Finally, the rig cultivation lies to the SE of the building and extends to about 15 ha.
