Samadalan was at one time a thickly populated district, but now deserted. The area is bounded on N by the HWM, Airor Burn on W and Allt Niag-ard on E. (Name Book 1873)
In 1849 over 500 people left the parish of Glenelg to emigrate to Canada. (A Mackenzie 1883)

A township, comprising two roofed buildings, twenty-four unroofed buildings and two enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1876, sheet lxxvi). Twenty-four unroofed buildings and two enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1970).

The western part of this township was noted by WCAS during a 2012 DBA and walkover survey. Ruined buildings, walls, enclosures, rig and furrow, clearance cairns, pens, tracks were all noted. For individual feature descriptions, please see associated report. <3>
