Full Description
A confusing multi-period structure which has been ploughed through and over-planted with conifers. This has created a complex jumble of stonework with only fragments of the original structures surviving. The site lies on a large natural platform at circa 40 meters OD, overlooking the sound of Sleat.
The visible remains consist of:
A.To the north side of the site is an isolated arc of massive wall foundations. Some 15 meters of arc survives and the foundations are 2 – 2.50 meters thick.
B. Abutting the outer face of ‘a’ are the remains of a small stone-built pen and adjacent
enclosure.
C. On the south side of the site is a cairn of massive boulders. The cairn measures 5.00
meters in diameter and is 1.50 meters high. Attached to the east side of the cairn is a
degraded, stone walled enclosure. <1>
Archive report includes plans, recording sheet and photographs. <2>
This site was first recorded in the survey of Leitir Fura in 1996. Noted as destroyed by forestry plough and with 70 pine trees growing on the remains. <3>
