Full Description

The Dornoch Firth Archaeological Society surveyed part of the intertidal zone of the shore of the Dornoch Firth in 2007. One of the photographs shows a section through the midden with labelled contexts as follows:
Topsoil and grass roots
Sandy subsoil, possibly deliberately laid as part of the golf course
Sandy subsoil with leachate from context 2
Sand with broken cockle shell
Charcoal with fine shell fragments
Sand with both fine shell fragments and large fragments of cockle shell, some intact
Yellow brown sand with very rare shell fragments
Charcoal with shell fragments <2>
