Full Description

A collection of clearance cairns, all interpreted as associated with prehistoric land clearance in this area, were recorded during walkover survey on the steep, boulder-strewn slopes above Strath Brora.

Feature 84 is recorded as the largest of several boulder clearance cairns scattered on this steep grass and bracken-covered slope. This one measures 6m x 4m x 0.5m high.

Feature 92 is recorded as bracken-covered, 5m diameter clearance cairn, flush with the ground (Plate 34), set below a 3m sized erratic boulder, on this steep, grassy, boulder-strewn slope.

Feature 99 is recorded as a pair of clearance cairns: the one to the SE is mainly grass and moss-covered and measures 6m x 3m x 0.5m high and trends downhill, whereas the one to the NW is 5m x 2m x 0.5m high and trends parallel to the contours and is less covered in vegetation. <1>
