Monument record MHG54349 - Tombstone, Nigg churchyard

Professor George Henderson sent information and photographs of the "curious tombstone of Ann Mille(r?)" in the north west corner of the churchyard, as follows:
"The slab is surrounded by conspicuous mortuary images in high relief, coffin, bell, thigh-bone below, hand with scythe, hour-glass, thigh-bone above, There is a cherub head between A and M in relief letters at the left end, and a skull and 'memento mori' in incised lettering, reversed to the viewer, at the right end. The inscription in handsome incised lettering, using a range of scale of letters, reads as follows:
HERE LYES THE DUST OF ANN
MILLE (r?) LAWFULL DAUGHTER TO
JAMES MILLE(r?) MERtt IN ELGIN WHO
DIED IN KINDES SERVICE THE 19 OF
NOR (Nov?) 1737 AGED 53 YEARS
(T)HIS STONE BELONGS TO ME HOUGH ROSS
KATHERINE ROSS"
It is assumed that "Kindes" refers to Kindeace or Bayfield a little to the east of Nigg. <1>
