Full Description

A number of features identified during trial trenching yielded finds of iron nails/rivets. Most notably these included a high concentration of iron rivets from a buried ground surface (context 207). A rivet attached to a wooden object was recovered from the fill of a later drain (context 208), although it is likely this was intrusive.
The buried ground surface also yielded a large quantity of horse (and other animal) bones, discussed under MHG54897.
Also assigned to this phase is a probably midden pit (Feature 5) which contained a soil fill with some animal bone, burnt glass sherds, one iron rivet and mortar. <1>
