Full Description

The most likely point for a ford across the River Sgitheach is just below the present Evanton Bridge. A trackway, shown on the OS First edition map (1874, Sheet LXV.13), running at an angle down the steep slope formed by the river terrace from the drive leading to Balconie Castle, can be followed on the ground. On the map, this stops at a field boundary. This is no longer visible and what happened beyond it has been affected by more recent development. <1>
