Full Description

This is the largest house using sleeper foundations known in Boat of Garten. It has 2 storeys and is rendered throughout. The extension to the east is also believed to have been built on sleeper foundations. The building has a corrugated tin roof. Some of the internal walls have been retained and painted, while others have been plaster boarded. Still in use (2011) as a permanent dwelling.

The building must date after the introduction of the railway (1863). It is one of a number of 'sleeper' buildings built from railway sleepers, or on railway sleeper foundations, in Boat of Garten and Badenoch and Strathspey. See Jackie Wilson's report for the ARCH Community Timeline course, 2011. <1>
