Full Description

One room house built in the grounds of Harari, Boat of Garten, near the railway track. It was probably originally the wash house for Harari. It is in its original state, with no rendering or treatment internally, which suggests that it has never been developed into a building for permanent or holiday residence, as is the case with adjoining properties. It consists of a single room with a large stone fireplace set into a stone gable. The fire and chimney are in working order. The building is currently used for storage.

The building must date after the introduction of the railway (1863). It is one of a number of 'sleeper' buildings built from railway sleepers, or on railway sleeper foundations, in Boat of Garten and Badenoch and Strathspey. See Jackie Wilson's report for the ARCH Community Timeline course, 2011. <1>
