Full Description

A number of undated pits and postholes were exposed during a watching brief and subsequent excavation on the site of a new medical centre at Broadford, Strath, Skye by West Coast Archaeological Services between the 25th July and 20th August 2011. Most of these appeared to be associated with the main cluster of features on the gravel ridge. Following removal of the remains of a possible prehistoric cairn (see MHG55635) a number of small ephemeral features were found cut into the natural sub-soil/gravel. Some appeared to be the remains of small stone-packed post and stake holes, from which charcoal was recovered and they formed a vague arc. Elsewhere on the site similar features were exposed though they did not seem to form any pattern and their function remains obscure. <1>
