Full Description

A post-medieval farmstead comprising buildings and enclosures is shown on OS mapping from the 1st Edition onwards in Farr, Sutherland. It is labelled 'Fastly'. Now deserted and ruinous. The site has since been bisected by two access trackways. The remains are shown clearly on aerial photographs taken between 1999 and 2011. <1>

The remains were partly recorded during a walkover survey by Highland Archaeology Services in 2007 prior to a proposed wind farm development. The remains comprise several buildings surrounded by enclosures formed of stone walls. The survey recorded two buildings at the southeastern end of the site which are not shown on any historic OS maps. Several of the ruined buildings had concentrations of rubble at either end which indicated raised gables. The survey concluded that several parts of the farmstead may be affected by the development and would need to be investigated. <2>
