Full Description

Six shooting butts were noted during a walkover survey carried out by RoCAS in 2013 in advance of a woodland creation scheme at Killiehuntly. The first was a turf-built, U-shaped shooting butt that measured 3.5m northwest to southeast by 1m with banks spread 1.5-2m wide and up to 0.6m high. The entrance is to the northwest. The second butt was a turf-built, U-shaped shooting butt that measured 4m NW-SE by 1.8m with banks that spread to 2m wide and up to 0.7m high. The entrance is to the northwest. The third butt is a turf-built, U-shaped shooting butt located on the top of the ridge with a southeast aspect. It measured 3.8m northeast to southwest by 1m with banks spread to 1.5m wide and up to 0.6m high. The entrance was to the east-northeast. The fourth was a turf-built, U-shaped shooting butt that measured 3.5m northeast to southwest by 1m with banks spread to 1.5m wide and up to 0.6m high. The entrance was to the east-northeast. The fifth was a turf-built, U-shaped shooting butt that measured 3.8m northeast to southwest by 1m with banks spread to 1.5m wide and up to 0.6m high. The entrance was to the southeast. The final structure was a turf-built, U-shaped shooting butt that measured 3.8m northeast to southwest by 1m with banks spread to 1.5m wide and up to 0.6m high.
