(NG 2688 0554) Standing Stone (NR)
OS 6" map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1903)
A standing stone, at A'Chill, Canna, 6ft high, 11" broad and 9" thick. It is of freestone, in places highly polished and apparently dressed. Called the 'Stone of Punishment' (S Gordon 1950)
RCAHMS 1928; S Gordon 1950.
Situated on the top of a rocky knoll and reinforced with concrete around its base. Undoubtedly partly dressed, but its period and purpose is impossible to determine. The stone has a small hole near the top on the S face, and is locally known as the 'Stone of Punishment'.
