Full Description

This site was visited by Roland Spencer-Jones of the North of Scotland Archaeological Society on the 24th of November 2013. At the time of this visit the site was described as a fine upstanding stone-built well, possibly of Victorian date. It was built into a bank and had a moss covered roof. There were old metal hinges on the right, indicating that the spring and well was at one time closed or covered with a grid or door. The west facing arched façade was 1.8m wide and 1.3m in height. Inside there was a stone conduit in the north-east corner of the square structure where spring water falls in an arc down to the body of the well 1m below. The level of the water in the well was below ground level. Futher down the bank water emerges and flows on to a track. <1>
