Full Description

Two Medieval brooches found through metal detector use in the Castle Stuart area, exact findspot unknown.

They are now in the collections of Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. The smaller, complete example (2010.010.005) is decorated with engraved lines covering the entire visible face. The pin is missing, and the brooch is broken at the point where the pin would be attached. Similar brooches have been dated to the 13th-14th century. Diameter 31.5mm, thickness 2.2.mm. The larger example is fragmentary. It is decorated with a zig zag design on both sides. C. 15th century. <1>
