Full Description
A medieval harness mount found during metal detector use in the Ardersier area, exact findspot unknown.
The object is now in the collections of Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. Treasure Trove description: A quatrefoil harness pendant with a broken suspensory loop and sstill bearing traces of gilding. The central decoration shows a lion rampant set against an enamelled red shield and each lobe of the pendant is decorated with a crude fleur-de-lis set against dark blue enamel. The design of the pendant is clearly allusive to the arms of England and France and such pendants are generally dated to post 1340 when the lions of England were quartered with the fleur-de-lis of France. Dimensions 29x21mm. <1>
It was photographed in 2013 by members of the ARCH Ardersier Local Heritage Project. <2>
