Full Description

A Mr C Butters reported finding what he thought to be a series of possible grave sites in the sand dunes at Balnakeil Bay, Faraid Head near Lairg in Sutherland. He reported a series of stone mounds on the beach on the 5th of May 1999 to Mr Donald Mitchell of Durness Visitor Centre. Mr Mitchell visited the site and considered it site to have potential as he noted that the larger mound was almost at right angles to the shore. However, he also wondered if the mounds may be part of a relic boulder beach below the sand. <1>

It is unclear if the site was looked at by an archaeologist as there is no further record of any investigation at the site.
