Full Description
St. Ninian's Church in Invergordon was built in 1916, though the original bulding was demolished in 1988 and re-built.
The site was investigated in 2015 as part of the ARCH project 'Invergordon in World War I'. The swelling of the population in WWI Invergordon led to the building of new housing, and also two extra churches, the Roman Catholic Chapel on High Street and the Episcopalian Church at the east end of the town. The church was built in 1916 of wood and corrugated iron. Before then services were held in the Y.M.C.A. on Outram Street. <1> Pictures from a WWI photo album in the collection of Historic Environment Scotland, available on Canmore (canmore.org.uk, DP196249, DP196257) show the interior. St Ninian's was rebuilt in the 1988 on essentially the same footprint, reusing the east window, altar rails and rafters. The WWI memorial was also retained, though sited in a different location within the new church. <2>
