Full Description

A WWII Military building in Invergordon Dockyard.

The building was investigated in 2015 as part of the ARCH project 'Invergordon in World War I'. The Dockyard workshops to the south of High Street comprised a number of specialist workshops, some quite large, used for ship repairs. Plans from WWI and WWII in private collection allow functions to be assigned in some cases. A WWI Naval plan in private possession shows the C.C.'s Plumbers Shop and C.C.'s Copper Shop, within its own enclosure to the south of the Fitting Shop and at a slightly different alignment. The enclosure appears on an aerial photo of 1930, but the buildings have been demolished. A large L-shaped building is depicted within the enclosure on a WWII plan in private possession. It lies within the M.O.D. property. An aerial photos from 1947 shows it as a single-storey building. The building is also shown in a 1978 aerial photo on the Invergordon Archive website (no. 650). <1>
