Full Description
A hut circle (36h - No.4 of 14) was recorded by M Wildgoose in 1999 at Cille Mhaire Glen, Strathaird, Skye, during a walkover survey in advance of a proposed forestry Woodland Grant Scheme for the John Muir Trust. A robbed 8m diameter hut circle to the northwest of a twin-cell stone shieling. <1>
The site was included by M Wildgoose, with a slightly amended diameter, in a catalogue of hut circles which combined the results of surveys on the Strathaird, Torrin and Sconser Estates. A circular platform cut in to the southeast facing hillslope measures 7.5m in overall diameter. Little survives at the rear of the platform but the front half of the hut circle survives as a low earth bank with some stone facing present. A two-celled shieling overlies the southeast section of the remains perhaps covering the entrance to the hut circle. This site has been heavily robbed for building stone for the overlying shieling. <2>
Note: NGR adjusted to position as seen on 2010 vertical APs [IS-L 08/03/2017].
