A hut circle at Bad A Chrotha (Badachro), Skye.

178629 871770 Badachro River 2 AMC115: The hut circle was visited by A MacInnes in 2010 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. The previously unrecorded circular stone structure is in fair condition and lies in woodland on a moderate East facing slope. The stones are identifiable but are thickly covered in moss. The platform is dug into and built out from the slope. Average inner diameter of the structure is 4.6m, outer diameter is 6.75m. The double skinned wall is 1.3m thick and has maximum height 1m. The East facing entrance has external width 1.2m, internal width 1m and passage length 2.2m. The wall thickness increases at the entrance to form two extended terminals. There is a field boundary 100m to N. This HC appears to be in a cluster associated with AMC113 (see MHG7668) (700m distant) and AMC116 (see MHG7670) (100m distant) and AMC114 (see MHG49724) (150m distant). <1> <2> NOTE: the NGR needs to be checked again in the field as it does not appear to be accurate.
