Full Description

A Hut circle near Tollie Farm.

186099 878931 Tollie Farm AM602: The hut circle was visited by J Buchanan in 2011 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross for A Welti. This site is dug into and built out from a gentle SW facing slope. There are panoramic views to SE, to the woodland, at a distance 1km, where JB601 (see MHG7781) and AM601 (see MHG57299) are sited, and to Loch Maree. The circular structure is in poor condition with stones submerged in heather, grass and bracken. Average inner diameter is 8.0m, outer diameter is 10.75m. The double skinned wall is 1.6m thick with maximum height 0.5m. No entrance was discernable. <1> <2>

[Note: a database was set up as part of research for the dissertation and was subsequently expanded as an extension of the We Digs Project (see website link below). The full access database can be made available to enquirers/researchers if requested - contact HER for details].

Note: NGR adjusted to position as seen on 2009 vertical APs [IS-L 28/06/2017].
