Full Description

NG25NW 9.07 2418 5937.

This rectangular building, which is situated on the S side of the public road to Port na Cagain, is shown as roofed on the 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Island of Skye &c., Inverness-shire 1904, sheet ix) and appears to replace a smaller structure on the same site (see ibid 1880). It still survives, if somewhat decayed, the principal rafters of the roof being 1.3m apart, supporting a ridge beam and covering of turf over saw-mill cut timbers. Terraced into the slope at the N end with a window to the S of an entrance in the E side, it measures 12m from NE to SW by 3.8m transversely within rubble-faced walls 0.95m in thickness and 1.6m in height. The enclosure shown on the 1st edition OS map does not survive, nor does the building 10m to the W (op. cit.).
